adjusting too- dark and light photos

obnoxiously cheery tone, obnoxiously video-only tutorial. but something I wanted to learn nonetheless. tutorial.

summary for my own future reference:
open the photo (in photoshop).
select > color range
   use eyedropper to select colors/areas that are too dark or light. adjust fuzziness (~100).
   hit ok: you get a selection. go ahead and feather it to make it softer (~25).
image > adjust > levels...
   use the levels command on just the selection.
   easiest thing is to adjust the midpoint.
